Industrial Lighting 1900 - 1940

Factories were once prevalent icons of industry and commerce in North America. Doting most urban centers, there were entire neighbourhoods and complexes devoted to factory life, culture and aesthetics. The shift from the industrial to the information age brought new life in to factory spaces via loft conversions and re-purposement of materials. Industrial lighting was always meant for task lighting and was made to be as simple, safe and effective as possible. A patina of age and prolonged usage are hallmarks of industrial finishes as thousands of well worked hands reached for them in there day. Exposed Edison bulbs are always present and harken back to a time when the factory was the epicenter of many peoples lives.
